Eadem Utraque Europa https://utraqueuropa.com.ar/index.php/eadem
Eadem utraque Europa is an academic journal published by the School of Humanities of the University of San Martín, Argentina. The title refers to the achievements of European civilization, understood as a contradictory and two-faced cultural reality. In the beginnings of the Atlantic expansion, the mutual gazes that the old and new Europes casted on each other became more distant and variegated. But they never ceased to be casted, to reciprocally colour and inform each other, to recognize their common kind, to support visions and actions understood as variations of a common matrix. This shared fabric was weaved during the Renaissance, with the threads of ancient paganism and medieval Christianity.

Eadem utraque Europa is listed in the Regional On-Line System for Scientific Journals of Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal (Latindex Catálogo), in the Integrated Clasification of Scientific Journals (CIRC), the Índice CSIC, ¨Spain and the European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences (EHRI PLUS).

Through a reconstruction of his epistemological and historiographical sources and influences, we aim to recognize the scope of his conceptual assimilations. The objective is to identify the originality of his work and its usefulness for Early Modern historians.
Santiago Francisco Peña ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2023-04-06 2023-04-06 22 13 47 Dante Alighieri in José Luis Romero’s Historiographic Work https://utraqueuropa.com.ar/index.php/eadem/article/view/217
This paper explores José Luis Romero's historical interpretation of the place Dante occupies in the development of what he calls “the bourgeois mentality,” that is tantamount to the origins and development of the modern worldview. Romero argues that Dante was a conservative thinker, opposed to the new political realities—from the birth of the nation-state to the modern commercial system, in other words, Capitalism—that were taking place in his own time. The article, on the one hand, studies the main pages Romero devoted to Dante’s ideas and, on the other hand, analyses his general approach on Dante in the context of the Argentine reception of the Florentine poet.
Mariano Pérez Carrasco ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2023-04-06 2023-04-06 22 49 61 The Renaissance in José Luis Romero’s Work https://utraqueuropa.com.ar/index.php/eadem/article/view/218
José Luis Romero understands the Renaissance as a period belonging to a historical continuum, in which certain ideas and concerns connected to the bourgeois mentality reach a consolidation stage, more than an irrumption. It is in this spirit that, according to the Argentinian historian, the Renaissance is defined based on certain behaviours adopted to deal with the awareness of change in traditional structures. The urban bourgeoisie’s are pointed out among those behaviours, and
mostly the one displayed by its higher levels: covering-up under a forms system connected to a new life understanding that had been discovered.
Mariana Sverlij ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2023-04-06 2023-04-06 22 63 85 Nature as a Theme in José Luis Romero's Work https://utraqueuropa.com.ar/index.php/eadem/article/view/219
The article studies the development of the idea of nature in José Luis Romero's work. The subject is studied both regarding concrete
historical studies, crafted by Romero regarding specific historical epochs, as well as in relation to his theoretical conceptions. The theme is clear in at least three topics of Romero’s work: 1. Human nature; 2. General conception of nature in the longue durée; 3. The role of the idea of nature in Romero’s concept of “historical life”.
Nicolás Kwiatkowski ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2023-04-06 2023-04-06 22 87 107 "Historic Life" in José Luis Romero https://utraqueuropa.com.ar/index.php/eadem/article/view/220
The article studies José Luis Romero's notion of historic life. The text defines the concept clearly and traces its genealogy through a detailed study of explicit and implicit referencies to authors such as Dilthey, Simmel, Freyer, Werfel and Spranger. According to Romero, there are two sides to historical life: knowledge and action. They are inseparable and fundamental both to the historian’s work and to his attempts to understand and transform his own time.
Daniel Bernardo Sazbón ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2023-04-06 2023-04-06 22 109 121 Ut Pictura Poesis: Divinidades marinas (Proteo, Nereo y Tritón) https://utraqueuropa.com.ar/index.php/eadem/article/view/221
The purpose of this work is to discuss the relationship between text and image in some representations of marine deities in the
Atic pottery of the 6th century BC. In a cultural context where orality predominates, this relationship offers diverse nuances. The marine
divinities in question are Proteus, Nereus and Triton. The first two have the ability of metamorphose, the third is an hybrid and have had diverse literary fortune. Nereus and Triton are related to the hero Heracles, and only of the latter have representation on the surfaces of the vessels survived. Greek society
in the 6th century BC built his iconographics paradigms, the recipients (usuaries) understood and appreciate the pottery representations.
Our challenge is to investigate the meaning of this figurations, the relationship with the text and the historical environment where they were constituted.
María del Rosario Macri ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2023-04-06 2023-04-06 22 123 149 Leibniz por Vicente Fatone: Creatio ex nihilo et creatio possibilitate https://utraqueuropa.com.ar/index.php/eadem/article/view/222
Vicente Fatone (1903-1962) remains a little known, if not forgotten, figure in the field of Argentinian philosophy. Orientalist, polyglot, poet, mystic, diplomat, journalist, philosopher, Fatone stands out as one of the most enlightened thinkers in the subjects he dealt with; his revalorisation is almost a duty. This time I start from his study “Leibniz y el problema religioso” in order to analyse his novel interpretation of the great question of creation in Leibniz. Contrary to the her-
meneutic canon, Fatone reveals to us —as it will be seen— “another Leibniz” in the light of ancient Eastern beliefs, based on his insightful reading of Theodicy.
Griselda Gaiada ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2023-04-06 2023-04-06 22 151 163 César Vallejo: Los imponderables del verbo https://utraqueuropa.com.ar/index.php/eadem/article/view/223
The essay interprets Cesar Vallejo's poetics mostly through his prose texts, with only a few references to his poems. In a veritable hermeneutic tour de force, the article unveils the contradictory aspects of Vallejos’ esthetics: silence and voice, dispossession and plenty, confusion and clarity.
Carlos Ruta ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2023-04-06 2023-04-06 22 165 184 La huida sin rostros. La restauración de La Huida a Egipto https://utraqueuropa.com.ar/index.php/eadem/article/view/224
These are preliminary results describing the conservation and restoration processes carried out in the work The Flight into Egypt, an oil on canvas of European origin, probably from the XVII-XVIII Century. The painting shows two mysteries that articulated the research and intervention work. The first revolves around its authorship, with the presumption that it could have been painted by El Greco or members from his school- This early attribution arises from the diffusion that
the work was made, through different graphic media, at the time of its arrival in Argentina, in 1938. On the other hand, the other question is related to the total absence of the faces of the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus, central characters in the painting. The painting has been subjected to different analytical studies. At present, the artwork is still undergoing investigation and restoration by advanced students from the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage undergraduate
program.
Carlos Gómez ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2023-04-06 2023-04-06 22 187 201
