La huida sin rostros. La restauración de La Huida a Egipto

Resumen

El presente avance de investigación describe los procesos de conservación y restauración llevados a cabo en la obra La Huida a
Egipto, un óleo sobre tela de origen europeo, presumiblemente del siglo XVII-XVIII. La pintura encierra dos incógnitas que articularon las labores de investigación e intervención. La primera gira en torno a su autoría, existiendo la presunción de que pudo haber sido ejecutada por El Greco o su escuela. Esta
temprana atribución surge a partir de la difusión que se hizo de la obra, a través de diferentes medios gráficos, en la época de su llegada a Argentina, en el año 1938. Por otra parte, el otro interrogante se relaciona con la ausencia total de los rostros de la Virgen María y el Niño Jesús, personajes centrales en la
pintura. La obra ha sido sometida a diferentes estudios analíticos y, al momento de la publicación, continúa su investigación por egresados de la carrera de Conservación y Restauración del Patrimonio Cultural.

Abstract

These are preliminary results describing the conservation and restoration processes carried out in the work The Flight into Egypt, an oil on canvas of European origin, probably from the XVII-XVIII Century. The painting shows two mysteries that articulated the research and intervention work. The first revolves around its authorship, with the presumption that it could have been painted by El Greco or members from his school- This early attribution arises from the diffusion that
the work was made, through different graphic media, at the time of its arrival in Argentina, in 1938. On the other hand, the other question is related to the total absence of the faces of the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus, central characters in the painting. The painting has been subjected to different analytical studies. At present, the artwork is still undergoing investigation and restoration by advanced students from the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage undergraduate
program.
