Muchos factores amenazaron con alterar significativamente el estatuto del Génesis en el siglo XVII. Entre ellos, la afirmación que algunos hicieron de que Moisés no era el autor o, al menos, el único autor de ese libro, y la expresión de dudas en torno a la inspiración. Ante esos nuevos desafíos, varios apologistas intentaron demostrar que no sólo Moisés era el autor del Génesis, sino que, a pesar de la distancia temporal, él había podido obtener una información histórica confiable gracias a la calidad de sus fuentes. Abstract

Many factors threatened the exceptional status of the book of Genesis in the seventeenth century: among them, the denial that Moses was the author, or at least the sole author, of this book and the expression of doubts about the reality of divine inspiration. In reaction to this, many apologists tried to demonstrate that not only Moses was really the author of the book of Genesis but also that he had gotten trustworthy information, thanks to the quality of his sources.
