Teatralidad y censuras en la España del siglo XVIII Theatre and censorship in Eighteenth century Spain

Resumen

El fenómeno teatral español en el siglo XVIII es analizado desde la perspectiva de la historia de las mentalidades. En tanto circunstancia de convergencia de diversos grupos sociales y canal de expresión y de comunicación de ideas, se atiende a su impactoo social al tiempo que a su condición de asunto de disputa. En ese cauce, el presente artículo avanza en la identificación de las variadas censuras (eclesiástica, estatal, intelectual) que operaron sobre el espectáculoteatral, contribuyendo a despejar no sólo los rasgos innovadores sino también las permanencias que caracterizaron a sociedades sometidas a profundas crisis de identidad. Abstract

The Spanish theater of the 18th century is analyzed here from the perspective of the history of mentalities. Since the theater is a point of convergence of different social groups and a way of expression and comunication of ideas, it is necessary to consider its social impact and its controversial condition. For that reason, the present article identifies the different kinds of censorships (ecclesiastical, statal, intellectual) that affected the theatrical shows. In that way, it also contributes to the study of the innovations and permanencies of those societies which experience a deep identity crisis.
